She looks and is. Living away so home has taught her considerable self-reliance. Not much is left of the little girl, I'm afraid, but I thoroughly enjoy her as she is.

Haha! She looked surprisingly comfortable in the uniform, in fact I complimented her as soon as I saw her. All her things were packed in her mother's car before the ceremony, so I presume she rode home before getting changed.

And it's very interesting how the photo framed itself. Marian, standing self-assured and quietly happy, in front of two pairs of hugging, crying peers.

You're the only one who mentioned all those layers of this photograph that I saw. I knew that several of the girls were crying, but this photo offered only a glimpse of one of their faces, so I didn't know whether that feeling would be evident. I'm glad you saw it.

Marian had been caught in the huddle only moments before. She shared their warmth and camaraderie, but for her it never became sentimental, at least not on the outside.
