Crataegus?

Last car I owned was a full-size station wagon, 1989 Country Squire. One morning in November 2000 it got totalled at the corner of Jarvis and Shuter. I haven't owned a car or needed a mechanic since.

Sunday afternoon Brenna noticed the Sunfire's muffler support dangling. I kept the exhaust system intact all the way home on an atheist's prayer. Yesterday I visited my old mechanic. Three young men stood kibitzing under a car.

One approached me. His name was Stef: 6'2", lithe and jaunty, shaved head, reddish-blond goatee, grey eyes, ready smile, musical baritone, loose mechanic's garb. I told him about the bracket.

"Happens all the time," he said.

We brought the car in right away. He asked how I stumbled upon the place. Old customer, I told him.

"Must have been long time ago," he said. "I know every face that came in here the past five years. Photographic memory."

When the boss appeared, he remembered me, and my old wagon. Stef found a new bracket somewhere, had me out of there in 15 minutes.

"Happens with every Sunfire ever comes through here. Gotta watch how she dangles."

Damn, that car is due for a brake check now.

Tell me about car maintenance. My '88 Honda Accord has not had the best maintenance in the past few years and it shows. Thankfully, I got the tires rotated about a week ago and one tire was begining to seperate at the tread. The front tires were worn down pretty well and the right front was the one with tread seperation.

A used tired and a rotation at Discount Tire and my warrenty resulted in zero dollars exchanged. I can't ask for more than that.

I know my car needs a break job up front at least.

But she soldiers on...

Wow, that is cheap. But I hardly expected to drive into a garage and pay less than $100, but I did, so I'm counting my blessings, too.

Wow, good enough to eat. The hawthorn leaves, I mean. Yeah.

Heheh, I was salivating alright.

....About the tree, it has puzzled me for years. It is thornless, ornamental and larger than most hawthorns I've seen, but I don't know what else it could be.

Hehe, I wish I had had to guts to look him in the eye at that moment and figure out exactly what was going on. But I was bashful, probably blushing.

Hehe, glad you liked. It was one of the bright points of my week. Sure adds some motivation to keep the car looked after. ;-)

Cheers
