I don’t mind the advent of cold weather so much anymore. Yesterday’s snow transformed downtown streets into rows of gingerbread houses. Frosted beds of lolling burgundy chrysanthemums, like blushing bacchants, dropped suddenly into hibernation.

Still, this morning’s breezy balm was welcome. Danny and I took the Ossington streetcar to Queen Street to meet Ted and Jim, two knitting friends. A grassy park sprawls alongside Queen Street Mental Hospital. The sunlight of these sweet November mornings has an ineffable quality like the backward glance of a departing lover. Tall trees cast naked, slender shadows in a row along the eastward wall of pale yellow brick, mannequins waiting for someone to choose a new season’s fashion. Trees are patient and not overmodest, so are their shadows.

With time to spare, we lunched at Vienna Home Bakery. Their sandwiches are served on exquisite rounds of whole wheat toast. I chose apple and blue cheese with decaf. My dessert was white chocolate wild blueberry cheesecake, delicious. I had a taste of Danny’s apple cranberry crisp, which was served with vanilla ice cream and ginger caramel sauce. A little luxury goes a long way.

Then we toddled down to Romni Wools to meet our friends.

Sounds good to me. The next few weeks are a bit crazy, but get in touch with before one of your planned visits into town and we can figure something out. :0)

It was both pleasant and needed. Weekends have been busy lately.

For food or wool? Are you familiar with Noro Silk Garden? That's my new addiction.

At the time, food, but now you've got me dreaming of wool. I haven't tried any of the Noro yarns yet, but I may have to.

Noro is an expensive addiction, but well worth the cost of losing everything else that matters. ;-)

Hehe, on a deep level I feel the same way. But in fending off SAD, I find it necessary to have the best attitude possible about f***ing winter. Yeah. So bring on the snow. Right. ;-)

yeah, I don't think it is the light that causes my SAD, because before the stroke I didn't have it. I think it is the three months where half of my body really has a *lot* of pain that sours my mood.

Hwas thu Hal! Merry Christmas, and Blessed Yule, y'all!
