Marian's head-hugger

Brenna's beanie

I discovered that the rust armchair is comfortable enough, so I spent most of last evening there finishing Brenna's beanie, quickest project yet: I cast on and knitted several rows the night before, but otherwise completed it in one day. I mostly used Noro Silk Garden colour number 44, but patched in some shades of red and chartreuse Danny had left from another colour. The pattern is free online.

Marian's head-hugger is adapted from one of [livejournal.com profile] djjo's patterns. Ask him for info.

The back pain had improved this morning, but it's getting bad again. Writing at my desk hurts. Keyboarding hurts. Knitting is okay, but I'm tired of sitting in that chair. After posting, I intend to lie down and continue Interview with the Vampire. It's alarming what it takes to get me reading.

I will be cooking Christmas dinner at my parents' place again this year. I wanted to plan the menu today (Mom requested duck), but browsing is just about the worst thing I can do (reaching forward is agonizing), so project must wait.

Heather called to ask if I could go into the office early tomorrow, 9 a.m. I said I would. I hope I'm feeling better.

great looking work, Van. my color preference forces
me to choose Marian's, but they are both superior-
looking work. you really seem to have the knack.

I really like the the top one. The shape of it (which I presume is due to some object it has been placed over) and the colour and texture reminds me a bit of an Astrophytum cactus.

Which is intended as a compliment since I like cacti.

You do some nice work!! I really like Brenna's beanie!

Hope your back feels better. Can you get a massage somewhere?

Both are gorgeous. I'd like to try one or even both in the near-ish future.

Once again, the wavelength. :)

oh yum!

Woohoo! Congrats there Van. They both look really great! And who you have thought that you only learned how to use double pointed needes on Saturday?!

Nice hats.

Have you tried either heat or ice on your back?

Yes, I like the subtler colours in Marian's hat, which are more to her taste. Brenna likes pretty. I'm glad my daughters are such different individuals.

Danny says knitting and I get along well. These are just my fourth and fifth completed projects. I have several others underway!

Yes, there is a resemblance! I'll have to point that out to Danny. I just stuffed the hat with plastic bags in order to take the picture. That didn't work for the other hat because the ribbing is more elastic, so I had to find a rigid form.

Thank you. Danny gave me a massage yesterday, which provided some temporary relief. Unfortunately I'm alone now until the end of the week. I remember a time when my EAP covered massage. Now I have to go begging.

Yes, the knitted hat options are so much more alternative and appealing than the toques with pompoms I refused to wear as a teenager!

I started the other hat today. Once I got to the stockinette stitch, I had to transfer it to the 4mm circular needle you left here. With the extra four stitches, they were tending to slide off the ends. The circular needle is perfect, much less clumsy than the dpns, so I'm zipping right along. I'll just have to transfer it back when I start decreasing.

I don't have any packs, but I'm going to try a hot bath this evening.

P.S. The beanie turned out a lot different than I expected, but I'm really pleased with the colour range. It will be Brenna's hat of many colours!

very cool! Once you get down to about 84 - 90 stitches, you should be able to switch back to the dpns.

Circular needles are a lot of fun. Some people hate them, but I use them for pretty much all my work. Those and DPNS. I rarely use straight needles these days.

the hats are very sweet! i've been knitting a long narrow (only 10 stitches) scarf with some ribbon-like yarn, shiny and rainbow-colored.

i hope you feel better soon -- i had a day of a strained (or something) back where i couldn't really stand up straight. but it seems to be ok now. when these things hurt, it seems like they'll never get better! but it will! soon, i hope.

I finished my beanie today. I actually had more trouble than with the first one, and had to do some ripping out, but it looks nice now. I might post a photo tomorrow.

Thanks. An aggressive massage wouldn't hurt, right now. Or rather, it would hurt, but good!

I seem to be slowly on the mend. That ribbon yarn sounds like fun. I've seen something like that at the yarn store, but wasn't sure how to use it.

thanks on the comment about the icon...a new friend Noel did it for me. I need to get a photo editing program to do some more icons.
