I think you need to come to the performance at Carnegie Hall...

Unfortunately commitments had to be made last winter. I couldn't afford the trip. :-(

I'm a bit ambivalent about Kris Jon Anthony's music, but the McWilliams texts knock me out.

(I have the Turtle Creek Chorale's premeire recording; I still had friends in TCC and TWCD at the time.)

Hope it went well for you all!

Wow, it's cool that you know the piece! I have mixed feelings about the music, too. On first glance, the words seemed depressing to me, especially considering one member of our chorus (we're a pretty close-knit group in some ways) had recently lost his partner to cancer, but once we started singing it the music brought some transcendence. "I'm past the point" is exciting to perform, and the three movements following it are simply quite beautiful, especially "I shall miss loving you." We already performed "But today?" at the AIDS Vigil on Dec. 1 and it's starting to come together.

This composition has proven an excellent challenge, and a significant departure from our usual secular, feel-good repertoire.

Thanks for pointing out that recording online. It's nice to hear some clips in the original setting for all-male chorus. I wouldn't mind picking up a copy of the CD, but the site doesn't seem to offer it for sale.

They have it in their store, but it's on back order, which I take to mean that they're waiting on another run to be kicked out.  It's not a bad thing that the chorus is selling out of their titles.

Really, some of my favorite recordings are the ones they did with the girls.  I went to their performance(s) at SWACDA in Dallas the year that the convention got booted from First Baptist because three of the four honor choirs that year were (gay) TCC, (lesbian) TWCD, and the (big ol' family) combined choruses (the fourth was a professional — and presumably heterosexual — chorus from Kansas City).  It became quite a big deal, with the Dallas City Council getting involved in the brouhaha and everything.
