Missing you
Feb. 9th, 2006 01:05 pmI am missing you
far better
than I ever loved you.
Last night we spent the latter half of chorus rehearsal listening to the Turtle Creek Chorale's recording of When We No Longer Touch. I didn't need to stay, but wanted to share it with my friends who will travel to New York City next week. It was pleasant to listen in the arched sanctuary of Harcourt United, rather than as I usually do in the car with background noise drowning subtler nuances.
If you can attend the performance at Carnegie Hall on February 19 at 8:30 pm, I recommend it. Keep an eye out for my friends who will be on stage, especially Sylvie, Sarah, Jon, Les, Moe and Bob. Last night Les gave me two bottles of homemade pear cider to drink and think of them that evening.
It was profoundly moving for me to perform this work with Danny sitting in the audience. I don't much feel sadness or loneliness about loving him at a distance, yet can't deny the feelings raised in singing about missing someone beloved. The passage that sticks most in my memory is the last verse of the Lacrimosa, with the full chorus singing and the soprano soaring above, sobbing: "Missing you, missing you."
