This has been a weekend for connecting with friends, newer and older. As a result of contacting Daniel last week, we spent two hours together on Friday afternoon. Having blamed myself for our lapsed contact, I was surprised to learn the truth. He had a terrible year in 2005, with personal losses and professional misfortune, and admitted to withdrawing from social contact for several months. He is active and self-aware, likely to rebound quickly. I don’t feel any better, realizing what he went through, but at least we have reconnected.

I also had opportunity for enjoyable visits with [livejournal.com profile] bruno_bt, [livejournal.com profile] schillerium, and [livejournal.com profile] 2fruition.

I met Shawn for lunch yesterday at Fresh, intended destination of an unfortunate tour around the city more than a year ago with [livejournal.com profile] roosterbear, [livejournal.com profile] quillon, [livejournal.com profile] rfmcdpei and [livejournal.com profile] schillerium. Happily I finally managed to dine there, the tofu dish with Thai peanut sauce was delicious, and this will be worth further ventures. I can’t imagine giving up meat, but my fondness for vegetarian restaurants is growing.

I had met [livejournal.com profile] 2fruition twice before knowing him on LiveJournal, but this was our first significant time together. He’s a good writer, he’s hot, and I look forward to seeing more of him.

Sorry I was so awkward. I get like that sometimes. rabbit in headlights. It was cool seeing you though, I hope sometime we get to hang in a more relaxed enviroment. :-)

I hope so too. I didn't notice you were awkward. Despite my openness as a writer and amiable manner in person, I have social anxiety and am not at my best in a crowd or group, so I understand.

Hopefully, we'll get to go to Fresh soon. Now that we all know where it is! Randy keeps mentioning it in his journal as well.

On the topic of vegetarianism, it tends to be something that someone falls into willing or unwillingly. I was reading in Coretta Scott King's obituary that modeling after her son, she became a vegan (no animal products whatsoever) in her later years. She claimed that it was the natural progression of her beliefs in respect for all of God's creatures. I wonder if her ailments would've been eased if she had become at least vegetarian earlier in life.

Possibly. It is certainly beneficial for many people. There seems to be an ideal diet for each individual, dependent on physiology. I also have a friend who was vegetarian, who on the advice of a naturopath started eating certain meats and cut down on wheat, and the combination alleviated her depression. I, having had trouble with iron deficiency, could not give up red meat without careful consideration, in fact it's probably impractical. Apart from considering certain husbandry practices inhumane, I don't buy vegetarianism on moral grounds, although I respect other people's views on the matter.
