Butterflies emerging from their chrysalides at Wings of Paradise

My friends from Guelph must be singing in Carnegie Hall right now. I'm drinking the homemade pear cider Les left, and watching movies with Brenna, which must be her favourite pastime.

Yesterday I went to Wings of Paradise to meet [livejournal.com profile] finch_bear and Dave, with their friend Tim. I had anticipated taking Brenna along, but she had a basketball tournament. The butterfly place had a number of species I hadn't seen there before.

Afterward we walked around Guelph Arboretum. Dave and Tim tried to feed the chickadees. I hope to spend time with these guys again.

The rest of the weekend has turned into another cinematic marathon. We have already watched The Dark Crystal (one of my favourites), The Stepford Wives and The Life Aquatic today. We'll fit in Waking Life before bed.

Second time through The Life Aquatic is a much different experience, emotionally. From the beginning it promises anything can happen, yet when Anything happens, it's unexpected. Knowing the outcome provides a different atmosphere. Besides, so much nonsensical hilarity happens around the edges that it holds up well to repeat viewing. I just want to know: who sings that sad song? The credits are too small on my screen.

Those pictures are great! I went to a butterfly vivarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City last year. It was great! Butterflies are so interesting and diverse.

I have never heard of "The Life Aquatic" before. I should see it. I only saw part of The Dark Crystal.

"The Life Aquatic" came out in 2004. It stars Bill Murray, Angelica Huston, Owen Wilson, Cate Blanchett and Jeff Goldblum. It's a whimsical, sometimes nonsensical, bittersweet comedy.
