Latest yarns
Apr. 3rd, 2006 11:13 pmI finally saw and delivered to
rfmcdpei a hat I've been knitting for him since January, actually completed a month ago, but wanted to present it personally to make sure it fit. Unfortunately the subtle colours (charcoal and midnight blue) would have been better photographed in daylight, but this must suffice. The yarn, donated by
djjo, is Cascade Pastaza, 50% wool and 50% alpaca, soft and warm, so Randy won't have much chance to wear it until next winter. It's based on an easy pattern from knitty.com using a single rather than double strand. Mathematical adjustments were required. I first knitted a one-inch swatch to figure how many rows were needed to encompass Randy's substantial brain.
The colours are barely visible on my monitor, but knowing it's on the dark side I hesitated to increase the fill light further. Let me know whether you can see the variegation.
I've been drooling for months over some expensive Manos del Uruguay yarn, a colour called wildflower. Thanks to Danny for gift certificates for Lettuce Knit, I purchased two skeins on Saturday. It comes from a non-profit organization involving 400 artisans, bringing economic opportunities to rural women. It will become my next scarf.
