I finally saw and delivered to [livejournal.com profile] rfmcdpei a hat I've been knitting for him since January, actually completed a month ago, but wanted to present it personally to make sure it fit. Unfortunately the subtle colours (charcoal and midnight blue) would have been better photographed in daylight, but this must suffice. The yarn, donated by [livejournal.com profile] djjo, is Cascade Pastaza, 50% wool and 50% alpaca, soft and warm, so Randy won't have much chance to wear it until next winter. It's based on an easy pattern from knitty.com using a single rather than double strand. Mathematical adjustments were required. I first knitted a one-inch swatch to figure how many rows were needed to encompass Randy's substantial brain.

The colours are barely visible on my monitor, but knowing it's on the dark side I hesitated to increase the fill light further. Let me know whether you can see the variegation.

I've been drooling for months over some expensive Manos del Uruguay yarn, a colour called wildflower. Thanks to Danny for gift certificates for Lettuce Knit, I purchased two skeins on Saturday. It comes from a non-profit organization involving 400 artisans, bringing economic opportunities to rural women. It will become my next scarf.

From the looks of things on my monitor, an LCD model at that, it looks like the yarn for the hat has variations of blue to black in it, am I right or is it more like medium blue to navy? Either way, it's lovely.

I like the second shot of the yarn for your next project. Should be a fabulous scarf.

My Mom is knitting me a sweater in a brown yarn. Hope it comes off well. :-)

It's midnight blue and charcoal. As long as you can see more than one colour, I'm happy. Thanks!

Oh my goodness I love that second picture. I cannot resist the colors of yarn. I used to have a yarn board... oh well I wrote about that. I wish you'd make prints of that photo and make them available as modest sized posters. I'm sure I'm not the only person who couldn't resist!

You're the second person who has made a comment like that. And I've been thinking it would actually be worth making large prints of some of my photos now. The resolution is supposed to be good up to 11" x 18", I recall. Hmm.

Ah a man after my own heart. Is there anything you DON'T do.

Well, yes. ;-)

I take it from this comment that you knit, too. Or something?

I have knit but I do not now. I have too many things on the go to actually force myself to sit down for any extended period of time. I am always moving. But I appreciate a home made knit piece.

Yup, I can see more than one color in the hat.

Missprune is right--reprints! The other picture is delicious.

catching up on LJ - fantastic cap, & love the yarn picture.

How far is Guelph from London? I'll be there in mid-May, for a conference at UWO, & staying at Chez [livejournal.com profile] finch_bear.
