I realized Danny won't return from Michigan until tomorrow evening, and I was tired, so I decided to come home for the night and head into Toronto tomorrow. My CD collection has been in terrible disarray since time immemorial, so I spent the afternoon tidying, organizing and counting it. This seems as good a way as any to spend Canada Day.

The tally:

  • Classical/Orchestral/Choral/Musicals: 181 CDs/sets
  • Popular: 73 CDs

I've also broken them down by composer/artist.

  • Collections/Compilations: ~20

All but about 20 are store-bought. Most of my Classical collection predates 1996, while most of the others are more recent.

My best collections are of Brahms, Chopin, Mahler, Schubert, Sibelius, Tchiakovsky, Vaughan Williams, Enya, Loreena McKennitt, and Rufus Wainwright.

I could use more Beethoven (sonatas and quartets), Mendelssohn, Mozart, Arvo Part, Stravinsky, John Tavener, Judy Collins, early Madonna and Joni Mitchell. I'm still missing quite a few artists that interest me, like Jane Siberry, Elton John, Alanis Morissette, Jem, Blondie, and Barenaked Ladies. I had some Tori Amos, but apparently it's lost.

Bruce, that's very kind of you. You're turning me into a big Mitchell fan.

Why, did they introduce you to Joni?

I've got a metric ton of Alanis, and the same for Tori. I also have some Elton. I would be happy to burn some CDs of all of the above for you.

Actually, before I start I have to ask a technical question: does your computer read DVDs? If it does, then I can fit it on a DVD (I think) but if it doesn't then I have to break it into a few CDs.

And if your computer doesn't read DVDs: would you prefer that I keep all the albums together, or would you like them mixed up and maximizing the space on the CD? It really doesn't matter to me, because the difference is maybe two or three CDs, which is negligible in the grand scheme of things.

It doesn't take DVDs. I like individual artists on a CD. That way the songs are easier to find (I don't have a large enough hard drive to save everything there). And 1984 sounds terrific! If you need my mailing address, my email is on my profile page.

Glad to see it's on youtube. I stumbled across it once after a long, long search. On which point, though it's in awful shape, have you seen THIS!?

OK. Can someone get a time machine and bring me Dave Stewart from that time period, please?

Wow, what a flash from the past! I probably haven't heard it since high school, and at the time I wouldn't have paid any attention. What a great song.

I'd like more Annie and some Eurythmics, too. Just gotta start somewhere. ;-)

*scribblescribblescribble* Noted. I have 1984 (which wasn't released in North America I don't think; I had to special order it) and I probably should throw that in, because it's great stuff.

You gonna find yourself buried under a veritable mountain of new music. Hee!
