Computer woes

Much less fun today, is tidying my computer. I renewed the subscription to Norton Antivirus, paid, downloaded and tried to install it, only to discover it's no longer supported by Windows ME. So I'm looking at upgrading to XP, but this is more than I can afford. Besides, this computer is about five years old, has too little memory to efficiently process photos from my new camera, and needs to be replaced, but who knows when I'll have the money for that. I despise the stranglehold of software companies.

arrgh! I believe the term is planned obsolescence.

I was none too crazy for Windows ME, as I never found it to be all that stable. However, having something as necessary as your antiviral program force you to change operating systems is both costly and frustrating. When I hear stuff like this, I can't help but wonder if they're getting a kick back from Microsoft for helping them sell more software.

Try freeware AVG anti-virus

Suggestion: Download AVG Free anti-virus from free.grisoft.com. It's allowed me to extend the working life of an old Win95 box I use as a backup and a Win2K box I bought used that gmjambear is now using as his primary PC. It's better than no protection, certainly.
