Beautiful child
Jul. 17th, 2006 10:51 amThanks to
schillerium, I found a bypass around Newmarket and the hated Davis Drive. From Sandford Road, one can continue west via Herald Road and Green Lane all the way to Bathurst Street, then cut down to Highway 9. Herald Road, which winds through lovely forested terrain, isn't visible on Ontario road maps. Not only does it pass north of the city, but the speed limit is 80 kph all the way, with only a handful of stop signs and traffic lights, so the route easily cuts 10 or 15 minutes off travelling time. Last night, with little traffic on the roads and one stop for gas, we made it from Lindsay to Guelph in two hours and twenty minutes, the shortest time ever.
We were listening to Rufus Wainwright, Beautiful Child, when Brenna said, "I wish I could play the trumpet like that."
I said, "Maybe someday you will."
In Gordon Taylor Music there is a lovely used trumpet for sale. How I wish I had the money.
First thing this morning I walked Brenna down to Guelph Grotto for rock climbing camp. This week I'll have some quiet time alone to process recent events and catch up on a long to-do list.
Pocket change will go to framing the drawings for Net.Works. The framer was on vacation and didn't expect to work on my stuff until this week, so after dropping Brenna off, I drove downtown to substitute this new drawing for L*VEjournal, with which I was less satisfied.
Beech leaves was drawn last week at the cottage, inspired by an impression of a moment, and time spent with
dakoopst.
And when there's nothing to gain Or bring me pain or pin the blame On you or myself And when they finally fall These wailing walls and burdened crosses God's twilights and all How I'll feel like a beautiful child Such a beautiful child again.~Rufus Wainwright
