Yes, the three of us agreed this was hilarious and that I should scan it to show our friends. I don't ask permission every time I post something about the girls, but have done so on numerous occasions, and they never express qualms. I would never post anything publicly to embarrass anyone close to me, and they understand that.
i would never suggest that you post something to ridicule anybody, but i do know that parents quite often seem to think something is " cute" when the child thinks it's horrible. I remember my father taking pics of me sitting on the pot peeing in the middle of the night and everybody thought those pics were adorable. I didn't. Glad you asked her.
That is simply humiliating. Some adults seem to think it's cute to humiliate children. When the girls were younger I tried to follow the motto: "Treat them like adults, but allow them to behave like children." It wasn't always easy, but it was a continual lesson for my ego.
I suppose the essential question is, "Would this be cute, or funny, or lovely, if I were in her boots?"
This photo has hung on a board at the cottage amid a huge collage of family photographs my parents have taken over the years, but the three of us never paid it much notice. Recently Marian pointed out that Brenna resembles a caricature of Edwina Monsoon in one of her gaudily fashionable getups. We're all fans of Absolutely Fabulous, and had a long, hard laugh over the reference. When I showed Danny, he suggested the caption from one of the show's episodes, which I used at the subject line. So, for me and the girls this photo is not merely cute; it has a subtext.
