My niece, Robyn, will have a show of her art go on display at M-ONE-11, an Australian-based fashion boutique at 561 Queen St. W. in Toronto. The work goes up October 18 for about four weeks, but the official opening falls on October 27 (presumably in the evening).
This follows great disappointment after a small gallery owner offered her a first solo show last spring, led her along for months, then cancelled a few weeks before the September opening. She had already postponed finishing her degree until the winter, and concentrated all summer on creating new work. M-ONE-11 doesn't offer as high a profile or as large a space, but it's a consolation, and provides a venue for her flurried creativity.
I finally found Robyn's website: http://robynwaffle.com/. You can see some of her digital work and drawings. If you click on "resume" you can see the lovely artist at work (then if you click "life experience" the photo will stay). Beauty runs in the family, but with Robyn it runs deep. She told me last February she has decided to be "a starving artist", but also does well and enjoys working in a high-end shoe store on commission where her personality come into play. I'm proud of her for starting to find her way at age 23, on a path our family struggles to comprehend.
