Danny came to Guelph and we had a grounding weekend: some quiet time, some social.

Last night we drove Sylvie and Sarah to Mississauga for a house-warming party at Jon and Bill's. They have moved into an apartment overlooking Lake Aquitaine, which isn't romantic as it sounds, but if one must live in Mississauga, this is the only good view possible and their apartment is nice. Mississauga is one of these sprawling suburbs, a satellite of Toronto with no identity of its own, nothing remarkable about it except its endlessness and Mayor Hurricane Hazel McCallion, who at 85 has just been re-elected for her 11th consecutive term; she was first elected in 1978. Jon has a copy of eighteen men on the bedroom wall, offering publicity to a few LiveJournalers. Later we moved down to the building's party room. There were delicious finger foods, some dangerous sangria with berries in it, and interesting new friends of friends to meet. Danny and I mostly hung out Sylvie, Sarah and Moe. Good, happy times.

This afternoon we went with Laura to Fair November. We admired the lovely things and brought home lovely food mostly. I invested (for pleasure) in some pumpkin fudge, Tracy's Saucy Sangria Jelly, and Rootham Chocolate Supreme Sauce with Cognac. The girls and I discovered Tracy's Wine Jellies at the One of a Kind Show one fall, and they're outstanding.

The quiet times included knitting together, walking along the river, and other enjoyments.

I am grateful tonight for the friends in my life. I'm a bit nervous about upcoming changes, but with these people I have an anchor.

There's something to be said for people with whom one can knit.

That sounds like it was a lovely time all around. That's just the thing for the approach of winter: good times with good folk.

I do hope you're able to find some grounding and comforting time, too. Look after yourself, and get lots of light!

Mississauga is one of these sprawling suburbs...with no identity of its own

Except that it has the second-coolest name among Toronto suburbs (after Etobicoke).

Etobicoke is not even a separate city anymore. It has been assimilated.
