This must be the only time of year the sun sets far enough south to shine directly through my bathroom window and into the shower stall. I discovered this yesterday afternoon when I turned off the water, pulled back the curtain, grabbed my towel and wrapped it over my shoulders. Looking down, I saw pale blue twill folds drop around my radiant orange belly, etched with fur. Glancing through the window etched with frost, I spied a soft gold eye watching me, enfolded in pale purple clouds.

This morning we worked on two more organs in downtown Waterloo. Back at Les's shop this afternoon we washed panels from the 1916 organ donated by a Hamilton Church for the new one we shall construct in Dundas. They were filthy with coal dust—"Hamilton air," I said—dappled with mould and paint dropped carelessly. Strips of felt insulation around the edges disintegrated in our fingers, emitting clouds rank with the smell of 90-year-old basswood.

Les is going away, so now I'm on holidays until January 8.

Yes, it was time to stand back and refocus, but I will.

Wow! We have a virtual warmth recycler between us! Like that! ;)

I am doing good. It's one of those extended periods of fluid change that a Virgo needs to control more, you know? I long for some thin veil of stability in the new year, sweet bubba.

What about you?

Really, really, really good. I recently started my first serious job in more than a decade (assisting a pipe organ builder, so it will be "occasional", but he anticipates full-time work for me January to Mary at least). It's interesting and I enjoy it immensely. I doubt that I've ever felt so optimistic about my life as I do now. I am needing to review my approach to LJ, but will continue it in some form.

Glad to hear you'll continue ... especially as I just jumped back on.

That job sounds cool! There's a period keyboard instrument maker here in middle TN I've talked to a few times. Makes a lot of player pianos. Really fascinating work.

(My boss and friend) Les's first instrument was a harpsichord he built in high school, then he moved onto organs. One of the interesting things I'm discovering is that no two are the same: every one we've worked on so far has a different set of stops and pipes, and produces different sounds.
