Drove home with the window cracked down, because it's sunny and two degrees above freezing. You would have to live in the North and have endured the past few weeks of uncommon cold to understand. Tonight and tomorrow: freezing rain, snow and high winds.

Behind the cut is a picture I took of myself sitting atop the crate we shipped to Halifax today. It contains the wind lines, weighs 250 pounds or so, and took five men to lift into the back of a transport truck.

The next two weeks will be slow. I finished work at 3 today and unexpectedly have tomorrow off.

The snow on the fields is wind glazed, blinding white when you look toward the sun.

We've had a thaw here the last couple of days as well ... a slow one, which is good because it means my basement shouldn't flood, the water has time to run off and drain away. Yesterday evening at the bus stop, all the commuters going home were bundled up, but it was noticeably warmer than it had been, and I saw my first shirtless male jogger of the calendar year. I completely understood why he had his shirt off. The comparative warmth was enticing.

Then again, I'm enticed by photos of hot workers in warehouses sitting on big boxes of stuff, so I'm "different." ;-)

I hope to contribute to the internal thaw, too. ;-)

Some big organ parts will fit in there quite comfortably.

The picture looks beautiful - but, seeing as how I'm enjoying still be able to wear shorts outside, I think I'm probably enjoying gazing at the scene from afar rather than being in it. DO you get used to that depth of cold after a while, or does it always feel at least somewhat punishing?

You look almost unbearably handsome in the crate photo. :)

I hate the deep cold of Ontario winters, so damp and penetrating. I will never get used to it, but neither will I ever get used to how good the first mild days of late winter feel. If I ever left Ontario, I would be most homesick from March to May, when I love seeing light and life return.

In the warehouse next to us works an engineer named Mike. Something about his appearance reminds me of you. He is shorter and stumpier, he keeps his beard trimmed closer, his hair looks like yours might when it turns to salt and pepper, and alas he is straight. But he has a similar handsome face, is good with computers, has a nice smile, and every time I see him I just want to hug him.

What a great photo of you sitting on the box, then again I'm partial to anything with you in it.

I also love the barn picture, what do I love about it? Well I love the line of trees that goes completely across, and I love the similarities in the colour scheme between the snow and the sky.

*hugs*

I drive past that farm almost every day, and am always drawn by that graceful row of maples along the drive, but this was the first day I cared to step outside the car and take a picture. The light was really lovely, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I felt a bit sad last night, but I've been enjoying the photos you sent. I hesitate to ask how things are going in Michigan, but if you need to download, don't hesitate to drop me a line. Except for a couple of errands, I'll be home most of the day Thursday.

I felt pretty sad too, and in fact I came pretty close to calling but didn't want to get into that habit.

Though I do plan to call you sometimes :)

I'll let you know how things are going here soon.
