Have spent some fine spring days recently. Enjoying the best of it with ones I feel close to.

Last Sunday, Danny and I strolled around Edwards Gardens (first photo) before heading to the Village for brunch.

Tuesday, Connor and I hit the road toward Georgian Bay. We stopped at a certain place, the road to Honeywood, that always takes my breath away, then in Creemore for coffee, and finally Wasaga Beach before heading home to spend an evening with Moe. I don't care for long drives when I'm supposed to be somewhere at a certain time, but when the schedule is open, there are few things I love better than an open road with good tunes and company.

Today: one of those rare, rich afternoons with Sylvie. I'm determined to move out of this place, so we walked around some neighbourhoods in search of "for rent" signs. Thirst drove us into the Red Brick Café for cranberry juice and biscotti. We finished back at her apartment, which has the most incredible ninth-floor view overlooking downtown Guelph and the Speed River. She made a stir-fry with shrimp, vegetables, noodles and peanut sauce. Then we watched Brokeback Mountain. I have a DVD here, but never wanted to see it alone, so this was the first time. Besides the fact that my "first time" happened in a tent, a few things struck awfully close to home and left me mildly desolate. I won't think about that now.

She found sheet music for Franz Schubert's Fantasia in f minor for Piano Four Hands. We wanted to learn something together, and this will be the piece. I'm familiar with the enigmatic main theme, but have never paid close attention, until now, to the composition overall. It is full of Schubertian grace, bittersweetness, and haunting key changes. I'm going to see about stopping there on Thursdays after work to get some regular practice time.

Dear Van,

Thank you for an incredible couple of days. It was great to reconnect with you on so many levels. I'm feeling a bit out of it as I prepare to head back to Denver tomorrow, and am having to remind myself that it is all part of the deal. The good the less good and the fantastically awful moods I go through.

I love the beach and the drive and the ..... So many good times in such a short span.

love
Connor

I know what you mean. It was a bit of a struggle to reorient myself toward work this morning, but once I got here, all the good reasons I love this job reasserted themselves.

As for last week, thanks for your many kindnesses last week, but especially for your physical presence, which I enjoyed in so many ways.

Love,
Van

Nice photos, as always. Good luck with the apartment-hunt.

I love that Schubert fantasia. I've crashed through it with my brother a few times over the years -- it would be fun to learn it properly.

Yes, I mentioned the Schubert especially with you in mind. There's a lot to it. I hope to spend some pleasant hours exploring its complexity.
