I've had lots of fun with the video function on my camera lately, and here is my first experiment with Windows Movie Maker. It's coverage from Toronto Pride 2007 on June 23 and 24. Brenna and I toured Church Street on Saturday evening, so the first few episodes come from that. On Sunday [livejournal.com profile] marian_w and [livejournal.com profile] growingratitude joined us to attend the parade.

My friend Dave came along and asked us to march with him and a gay parents' network. I discussed it with the girls, and they were keen, so we joined Dave's contingent when it came along. In the attempt to cross the barricade, I fell, but the crowd lifted me up and over. I suppose marching with my daughters in the Pride parade is the proudest thing that could happen, and I captured a few moments from the incident.

At the end, we doubled back to see the rest of the parade that followed us. The video ends with a performance by my perennially favourite act in the whole show, The Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corps.

Thanks for sharing that awesome video, Van. For the last several years, I've avoided the Pride parade, feeling it had become too commercial and just not so much fun anymore.

Thanks for showing me that is not necessarily so.

And right on! It was great seeing you and the girls joining in the parade. I used to love doing that, before the barricades went up.

How wonderful that you guys marched and let everyone see how much love and pride there is between you and your incredible daughters!

Thanks again for sharing that here, Van.

Community is what you make of it, I believe. I try to make the best of it, when I can. I too have reservations about the Pride parade, but try not to let that stop me enjoying myself and participating. I'm a little tired of the crowds, and might rather find other ways of celebrating, but my daughters keep me involved

I did it once or twice before, but doing it with my kids was something else!

Seeing you was a highlight of the parade for me. I was with my nephew Nick on the TDSB float, and I thought how odd it was that I would recognize your daughter only through your journal....

Marian said someone called my name from one of the floats, but I couldn't see who. It must have been you!

The crowds can be overwhelming, but it always manages to be a blast! You're welcome.
