I had just returned home from my first full day back at work, and was putting ingredients in the bread machine, looking forward to a pleasant evening in the restored apartment, when it happened again. The pipes burst upstairs.

It was 6:05 p.m. Fortunately I was working in the kitchen and heard the sound of deluge. Unfortunately Joanne had just closed the store and left, so I couldn't turn the water off. I couldn't reach the landlord, so I called 911. First the dispatcher had the gall to tell me it wasn't an emergency, then perhaps she heard the sound of gallons of water pouring into pails as I hauled every container I could find into the hall. Or maybe it was the hysteria in my voice. She put me through to the fire department, where the operator responded appropriately.

This time none of my stuff was damaged. The pipes burst in a different location, and most of the water fell in the hall. I contained most of it, but the carpet is still soaking wet. The insurance adjuster will have to be recalled and more repairs done at who knows what inconvenience to myself. Again I have no running water, so I will return to Sylvie and Sarah's place tonight.

I have had it. I feel like giving up, but Les happened to call just now to discuss work tomorrow, and he told me not to do that. He said to take whatever time I need to do what I must do.

Tomorrow I will begin looking in earnest for another apartment.

Goodnight.

I don't know what to say, other than that I'm sorry for what's happened. The work, the loss, the inconvenience, and most of all, the stress of dealing with all the crap, must be very demoralizing. I hope you can keep your spirits up.

unbelievable... I think it's time the Universe cuts you a break! Was this more negligence on the part of the landlord's son?

Good luck with the apartment hunt.

Oh, poor Van! What a drag.

Sounds like there's an uninsulated pipe in an overly exposed place. And somebody needs to sit on the landlord's head until he fixes it.

But that's probably not something you'd find a whole lot of fun, so looking for another apartment is probably a good idea.

It is time for you to go bub. That place and his lack of correcting the issues have gone on long enough. I hope you find a great place at a good price. You're in my thoughts.

OMG, I can't believe it's happened again.

Is there anything you need or that we could send that might help you get through this latest hurdle?

How can I help? Let me know if there's something I can offer besides moral support.

You poor, sweet man. Much love to you.

My sympathetic thoughts and good vibes to you. I'm so very sorry.

Good luck with the apartment search. I'm visualizing you being in a much better place when all this is over! At least none of your possessions were damaged this time.

hugs, Shimmer

You must be beside yourself with aggravation and stress. You are too good of a person to have The Fates treat you so roughly. I hope you can take some comfort in the fact that you have a very loving, supportive community here at LJ. Big hard hugs to you.

I am not a lawyer. But it occurs to me that at this point you may want to consider consulting one, if only to give you a bit of leverage in getting some assistance with your moving expenses, since your landlord appears incapable of holding up his end of your lease.
