There is hardly a place and time in Ontario more beautiful than a September meadow. The past few weeks have been wired with worries about work and money, but these roadside treasures caught my eye on the way home this afternoon. All I needed was eyesight to make me wealthy, and the camera made me a philanthropist.

It reminded me of the country house I called Elmbrae, where I lived when Marian and Brenna were little. We had one of these meadows. In spring it turned white with blossoms of hawthorn, wild apple and chokecherry. In fall it became resplendent with asters and goldenrod. A meadow recalls moments in life that are worth holding onto. Today it gave me peace.

I want to make a tapestry of these colours.

Asters and goldenrod

September is such a gorgeous month, isn't it? (although my icon is a November shot, lol)

September used to make me sad, but lately I've learned to rest in it.

Sigh - I need a meadow like that about now.

And I'm working on the colours.

I've got the goldenrod all simmered and will be dyeing with it Monday or Tuesday. It makes a yellow pretty close to what you see here.

The elderberry is pretty close to the purple.

We'll figure something out for the green.

Smooches - last batch of yarn coming out in 10 minutes.

Oh my, it looks like you were up late! Hope you're not too tired today. I'm excited to see how the dyes turned out. See you later!

I love that picture...it's beautifully eye-catching and relaxing. I love how you framed the meadow by the fence.

Job very well-done.

... and the camera made me a philanthropist. ... a wonderful way of putting it, and a perfect summation of why I am so keen on photography and why I take pleasure in sharing photos.

Here, two that I've uploaded to use in coming journal entries that you might enjoy now:

I'd be pleased to regularly read your journal.

Hi, I'm pleased to encounter another local photographer and artist. Your icon seems familiar to me. Do you have an account on Flickr? Or maybe I've just seen you on [livejournal.com profile] machineplay's journal...

If the icon seems familiar I suppose it would have to be from [livejournal.com profile] machineplay's journal; the one on flickr hasn't been updated in a while.

I'm at http://www.flickr.com/photos/sidrguelph/ -- it's been too long since I've put photos that aren't of people there; people like to see their friends, and I'm not the only one who thinks of humans first in that regard most of the time.

on the topic of your post, I've been reading George Soros' The Crisis Of Global Capitalism: Open Society Endangered (http://www.amazon.ca/Crisis-Global-Capitalism-Society-Endangered/dp/1891620274/), largely because I see such parallels between and among disregard for ecology, econonmy, and society, and what he has to say convinces me all the more that riches that show up on the bottom line of a financial statement are the least important kind.

Thanks for mentioning that book. It sounds like one I would appreciate reading.

I'm not the only one who thinks of humans first in that regard most of the time.

Interesting you would say that. I love people and crave their company, but am more at ease alone in nature. I suppose my photography reflects that, but also it's a way of reaching out to people, sharing the beauty I find.

This photo barely captures the beauty of the real place, but I had to do my best...

Hello, I wandered over from checking to see if [livejournal.com profile] thewindrose had updated her journal (nope) and just had to share my joy in the photos you have here, especially this one and the dew-bedecked milkweed pod (I believe...?) from 2008/09/25. This is exactly the kind of photography I enjoy doing, but don't do enough of it. I like the photo journal idea and maybe this will give me the inspiration I need to go out there and DO it. So I hope you don't mind if I add you so I can follow along! :o)
