A few words

Spent an awesome evening with a good friend.

This morning I lay in bed until 7:09, and succeeded in not worrying about it. What are your mornings like? How do you get out of bed?

My daily submissions to 100 words this month explore my relationship with money (an uncomfortable topic), with a good deal about organ building thrown in, since that's what I do for a living. Not all the site contributors write topically, but I like the practice of choosing a theme to address every day. Different moods come out, different textures. I might consider a certain idea I want to write tomorrow morning, but when the time comes, something else will seem more important. Sometimes I'm angry at someone. Sometimes I'm in love with the light in the shop where I work. Sometimes I'm pathetic, but 100 words of drivel is not too much to endure before the next image hits, and maybe it will be lovely. It's a fertile process.

If I complete all the daily entries, they will be published as a unit after the end of the month.

It would be good to write a novel 100 words at a time.

i've written a few "drabbles" in fandom, i.e. tiny stories in 100 words or fewer. it's hard to curb my natural verbosity!

as for getting up in the morning, i had myself trained to be an early bird, out by 6:00 or 6:30 at the latest; but recently, i'm all about sleeping in till 7:15 or so. must amend my ways!

V, I love your verbosity! Never stop.

Back in October I was getting up by 6:30, too. I'd like to get back to that.

i myself am a night owl i go to bed around 3 a.m.. i wake up around 7:30 to feed the kitty and always go back to sleep until about 11 or 12. i am sure if i didn't have to get up at 7:30 i'd be up around 10:30. it bugs me all the time that i sleep so much longer than i want to.
that said - i get up by noon - take 20 minutes to stretch. have a big glass of vitamin water and "read" the internet for about a half hour 40 min - then i eat and shower or walk then shower.
i'm working by 4 pm most days.

I am naturally a night owl, too. If I didn't need my day job I would favour a much different routine. I like your routine.

My best time for writing is after 3. I'm toying with the idea of trying to establish a writing habit after work, but it's a very hard time to be consistent (I have a volunteer shift after work on Tuesday and rehearsal after dinner on Wednesday). First thing in the morning might be best for the time being.

Although I could easily sleep until 6:30 and be at work by 8am, I choose to get up at 5:30 because I hate being rushed in the morning. As a teen, I slept in as late as 11am, but now if I sleep past 7am, I feel as though I wasted the entire day. The early dark hours seem full of promise, as if I could accomplish anything, but for some reason I usually don't.

I like this thread you have going. It stirs things deep within, for me.

Good to hear!

Yeah, my main reason for wanting to get up earlier is I hate being rushed in the morning, too. I get stressed out and grumpy about getting to work on time (and then my boss is usually later than me). I enjoy the day much more if I have time to do things I like before the things I have to.

Weekdays, I have a dual-alarm clock radio. At 5:30 the radio comes on and if I wake I listen to the news and weather, and then get up. Otherwise the 6:00 buzzer gets me up.

Then it's bathroom (turn on CBC); breakfast and read the paper; shave, brush, etc.; make lunch; dress; off to work for 8:00 (rush!) or 8:30.

If left to my own devices, I sleep 8 hours - 3 a.m. to 11 a.m.

I wish I could do what you do when left to your "own devices", but one late night disrupts my routine for several days. The dual alarm/radio sounds like a good idea.
