I took yesterday off work. In the morning I had an appointment in Hillsburgh to look at a friend's house that needs renovations. Unfortunately some of the problems are not as simple as anticipated, and busy as I am with organ work I don't feel confident about taking on the job. I'm going to ask Brenda and Judy, who I worked for in 2008, whether they are interested.
After lunch I wrote for a couple very productive hours. So although I don't seem to be getting anywhere with the novel during morning sessions, the practice sows seeds of ideas.
I did a fresh rewrite of the opening paragraphs and took that passage for critique at Writers' Circle last night. They liked it. I worry that all this reworking will just overwork it, but Marion said it is improving, so I guess the struggle is worthwhile.
