Winnipeg fabulosity
May. 23rd, 2010 11:20 amWe arrived safely in Winnipeg on Friday.
djjo's sister does not have wireless and we are busy with Unison festival activities, so I won't have much opportunity to update for the next few days.
I slept well the past two nights.
It is a wonderful experience to perform at these festivals. There is no competition, only a strong community support for every queer chorus, regardless of achievement level. Everyone receives a standing ovation.
We were one of five choruses who performed in the first block yesterday afternoon, and another four appeared in concert last night. Our performance of "Oh Shenandoah" received such heavy applause that we had to pause and give a group bow during the middle of our set, which doesn't normally happen. We have worked hard at our a cappella technique, and it was great to receive the recognition. I could see the audience also liked "Starlight".
My favourites yesterday were Ottawa's Tone Cluster for vocal excellence, and Montreal's EXtravaganza for stage performance fabulousness. Their renditions of "Vogue" and "Thriller" (complete with zombies) blew the audience away.
