I don't remember ever being affected this badly by heat. In Atlanta three summers ago it literally made me sick, but at least I could escape to [livejournal.com profile] dakoopst's air conditioned apartment. This week my apartment seems to trap the heat, and I can't get a cross breeze. I can't move. If I get out from in front of the fan for two minutes I am dripping with sweat.

Even with the fan, I was barely able to sleep last night. The other one was the kind that broadcasts back and forth, so I set it to move the length of my body, and that was fine, but now it's broken. The remaining one is stronger, but it doesn't move, so I have a solid blast on my face, or stomach, or legs. While awake I don't mind shifting positions every few minutes, but at night it drives me crazy. I'll wake up with one part of my body irritated by the fan, and every other part clammy with sweat.

The shop is a little less extreme. It's hot, but I manage to get through the day by switching between strenuous and less-strenuous tasks. By the time I arrive home tired, my tolerance is reduced to nothing, and all I can do is huddle in front of the fan, knitting or playing on the computer. I'd like to prepare a proper meal, but each time I make it as far as the kitchen, all I can do is grab something from the fridge and head back to the fan.

When I'm this uncomfortable, it's good to remember how much I have to be thankful for. Probably the most moving new song I've heard in the past year is Charlie Winston's In Your Hands. Today I discovered the video, and it blew me to the verge of tears.

The heat is supposed to break tonight.

My boss is working in Toronto and offered to pick up the loom from Danny's place and transport it in his van, so we don't have to make a special trip.

I have put in a solid work week so far, an improvement from the past several weeks in which I had to cut a few days short due to anxiety.

Lots to be grateful for.

Wow, blown away by the song and the video!

Spring is definitely approaching here, for which I am grateful.

Fans - especially at night - give me a sore throat, so last summer when it was particularly hot, I learned to sleep with an ice pack behind my neck, something that usually helps for me for migraine. Even during daytime, it works like a charm when you are sitting somewhere, with an ice pack propped between your neck and the chair.

Of course, my long hair means that I needn't buffer the cold - but you might want to wrap a towel around the ice pack.
