I find myself in the midst of an intense concurrence of writing projects and creative energy. I continue to pick up freelance work whenever I can from The Content Authority, and a little extra income has begun to trickle. Meanwhile, recent personal insights have persuaded me to resume working on a novel. Yesterday I downloaded the beta version of Scrivener for Windows. I believe this software may provide a useful tool to began breaking down the first draft into manageable pieces so I don't have to see it as one huge, insurmountable chunk. It will be useful for journalism, too. Additionally, in the background, the current nature writing project keeps moving forward. Finally, I have an assignment to review Becoming Animal: An Earthly Cosmology by David Abrams for The Bookshelf's advertizing newspaper, Off the Shelf. They pay in store credits, and it will be another good experience.

I have not often undertaken more than one time-consuming, challenging writing assignment at once. I'm surprised to find myself comfortable with the pressure, in fact putting it upon myself. Boredom is nowhere on the horizon. I just need to figure out how to schedule my activities so I complete everything according to schedule.

At the same time, the new sleep routine shows signs of producing a significant energy shift.

Many thanks to you who made thoughtful comments on the previous post. I take it as further confirmation I am in the right space at this time.

I love this "Van", he's almost a renaissance man...

But Renaissance men didn't have to write HTML. ;)

The previous paragraphs will make a little more sense this morning, now that I've restored a couple sentences that were eliminated by an error.

Thank you, Paul.

I'm quite fond of David Abrams's _Spell of the Sensuous_. He does a great job of skirting the split between religion and reverence for nature -- the split we were talking about the other day.

Yes, I was rather amused to have this book come across my path yesterday. I thought of you when I picked it up from the bookstore. I had submitted a list of new books I would be interested in reviewing, but must admit it was my first preference.

Maybe I can talk to you about Spell of the Sensuous, when I'm closer to writing the review (due Feb. 7). My friend at the bookstore asked whether I had read it and offered to loan me his copy. When I suggested I should read it in order to do the review, he said that was unnecessary and probably impractical. "It was heavy going," he said. "I had to pick it up and put it down a lot." I'm still going to borrow it from him, but maybe I'll have a couple questions for you if I don't have time to read it.

You know, it is heavy-going in parts. Not bad, not unenjoyable, just a little complicated. He's very clear and very accessible, but the ideas are fairly complex. In fact, he does a great idea of making them manageable.

In parts, it's fairly easy to read. In other parts, it's more difficult. But it's very rewarding. I haven't finished it yet, and I've skipped some parts. I've been reading it for a while. It can be hard to summon that kind of attention for leisure reading.

I'd love to talk with you about it.

And thanks for the link to Scrivener for Windows. I've been wanting to use it for a while, but didn't realize a Windows version was in the works.

I set out to include it in a sentence explaining it was the beta version, but holy cow! I had trouble with the HTML for this post. Maybe I should just start writing in the rich text editor.
