The Eramosa River this morning
Aug. 19th, 2003 12:10 pmI am terrified of photographing strangers. I don't know why. As a reporter I had to photograph all kinds of people whether they objected or not. Somewhere in the intervening years I lost my courage. It is an intolerable fear. I want to photograph people and have been bracing myself for it.
This morning I had no choice. It was take the picture or consign myself to eternal conflagration. To walk away from this moment would have been artistic cowardice of the highest order.
The act was exhilerating.

Date: 2003-08-19 09:42 am (UTC)From the sneaking up behind trick, you'll soon be able to graduate to the pretending to photograph something else method, then the full frontal photograph and run technique and finally the mind if I take your photo? request.
The world is your oyster . . .

Date: 2003-08-19 01:45 pm (UTC)I thought of offering a print; that is a good idea. Unfortunately, at the moment I can't afford a new colour cartridge for my printer.
