Laughter

Speed River from Neeve Street Bridge

I can't remember how long it had been since I'd had a good loud laugh, but in the past 48 hours it happened three times. Once it attended my reading a priceless fandom piece mentioned by [livejournal.com profile] trinker, No Reservations: Narnia. I theorize the deep breathing exercises I started doing each morning have released my capacity for laughter.

Each of the past three days I have also meditated and written a thought record. Here come a whole bunch of new habits not listed on my 6 Changes for 2011. My mood has improved so much already, I must manage to maintain them somehow after my routine returns to normal.

Danny has a cold, so we're looking after each other. Today we went for a walk and I showed him the stretch of trail I discovered on Friday. I took this shot of the Speed River. The view had something magical about it, I thought: perhaps the rarefied light or muted colour palette. This is less than five blocks from downtown Guelph.

So pleased to hear you're laughing again. You seem to be finding ways to manage your mental health and improve your mood. Nice one.

Love the pic, by the way.

Yes, I know lots of activities that help me feel better. One obstacle is my dysfunctional belief that I don't have time for all the things I want to do. So I try to cut corners on self-care. That has to stop somehow.

just a chuckle

I'd like to know a bit more about your theory on deep breathing and laughter, if you care to share.

Deep breathing and laughter both employ the diaphragm and relate to a relaxation of the mind. Even nervous laughter would seem to release anxiety. I theorize simply that deep breathing exercises and stimulates the muscle, releasing an emotional block against laughter.
