I bought a package of 250 lollipops and a package of 40 Tootsie Rolls, intending to hand out one of each to every kid to came trick-or-treating. By 6:40 the Tootsie Rolls were gone, so I started giving two lollipops to each visitor.
The households in our neighbourhood seemed to be trying to outdo one another in decorating for Halloween. There was a giant glowing rooftop pumpkin. Another house had bright orange lights flashing behind all the upstairs windows like the whole place was on fire. Cobwebs and body parts were everywhere, lots of pumpkins but few were carved. "Your pumpkin is really nice," a couple girls said. Even after the troops of small children diminished, the street was a madhouse of people milling around, enjoying the spectacle.
At the end of the evening we had 20 lollipops left. We must have had more than 130 visitors in two hours.
