Essential furniture for the virtual office

Today I brought home a new Toshiba Satellite work laptop to replace the five-year-old one. Future Shop set up some of the basic software for me, but I spent most of the afternoon setting up the rest myself. It is interesting to note what I regard as the essentials when setting up a new technological workspace.

I have unique passwords for everything, mostly not memorable, so getting the Password Safe file transferred was an essential preliminary step to getting access to any of the websites. Transferring LiveScribe files was trickier than it should have been. Unfortunately the version of Office I bought several months ago was only good for one machine, so I have to replace it. I'm still waiting for the online transaction to go through, so it doesn't look like I'll have word processing capacity until tomorrow.

It will not be easy learning Windows 8. It is not awful, but it is quite different from what I'm used to.
