[Dream] Turning back time
Jan. 14th, 2013 09:52 amI was living back in the apartment on York Road, where I lived from 1998 to 2009, but the building was across the corner where the Polish deli is, the apartment was on the main floor, and it had been renovated. In other words, it was not a total dump, but had a fresh-paint-over-old-wood feel. It also had a rambling feeling that seems common in dream houses, as it never really ended anywhere. It has only one room, but cupboards at the back were full of cubbyholes leading blindly into secret spaces.
The main room was full of washers and dryers. Apparently Ken (the landlord) had set up a laundromat in my apartment, but this didn't seem to bother me. Maybe the reason it didn't bother me was that I was getting ready to move out.
I was moving back to the country with my wife. This also did not seem to bother me. How strange! She was also getting a birthday party ready for me; totally out of character. I was planning all kinds of games, and was excited about seeing the people I had invited. The place we were moving was a farm somewhere northeast of Guelph along Old Highway 24 toward Erin. I did not go there in the dream, but pictured it in my mind's eye: a huge lawn with a set of swings.
She had gone back there but I had to stay longer in the city to close up the old apartment. I had to find someone to drive me out to the farm, and the only one I could think of was Ken. So I went and asked him. He looked much younger, as when I first moved there. He was willing to drive me.
But there was also a concern about the telephone. Apparently I had acquired my mobile phone sometime earlier, discarded the land line and left the the old phone, which belonged to Ken, in a pile of discarded phones in a building across the street (where the apartment actually is). The phone had since disappeared. Someone had obviously stolen it. A pile of old phones was still lying there, so I couldn't understand why Ken was concerned about it. Anyway, it was his fault for leaving them around; at least, that was how I rationalized my negligence. Anyway, Ken let the matter drop and I woke up.
