I dread interviewing people, but it is invariably the most exciting aspect of being a journalist. Social anxiety will probably always make me feel this way. Maybe it is like the thrill others get from jumping out of airplanes, which appeals less to me than dying peacefully in my sleep. I have to pay intense attention and trust my parachute (Skype Recorder) will work. For now, interesting, intelligent people with nothing to hide provide adequate fascination, but I can begin to imagine trying something harder. Turning their stories into words is the meditative craft that balances the adrenaline plunge.

I actually quite like it on the whole - I do it a LOT for job candidates, which I realize is different than journalism. Interviewing smart and articulate people is indeed a thrill. But when you get someone who's really quite boring, there are few tasks more agonizing.

Haha, yes. Fortunately I'm unlikely to get assignments to interview boring people. :)
