Danaus plexippus

Wanderers gather in a bright August tangle—
scratched legs scramble through jewelweed
follow a monarch's riches dripping from Joe-Pye weed.
Tomorrow (all meetings finished)
both wings and feet surrender the meadow
to a descending sun.
