I spent last night at the hospital for a sleep study. I had to spend the first while without a CPAP machine, so I had trouble falling and staying asleep. Eventually I buzzed and asked if I could have the CPAP, but the nurse said they needed another half hour of data. I went to the bathroom, went back to bed, lay there for while, seemed to doze for a few minutes, and finally she came and let me put on the mask. I think I slept more soundly after that, but I was already awake when the nurse knocked on the door to wake me at 5:30.

During the last episode of sleep I dreamt my family was trying to help a group of people in their 20s and 30s. My family might have consisted of Danny and my daughters, or it might have been a fictional family; I can't remember. The people we were helping also seemed to be a family group or a small collection of anarchists. I was attracted to their leader, who looked like English comedian Alan Davies but with sandy-coloured hair.

We were in some kind of wilderness area, or a post-apocalyptic setting. There were not many people around, and those who were had to fend for themselves. Apparently my family had lots of supplies and had offered to sell some to the other group. It was mostly food. They were loading it into some kind of vehicle. When we went to receive payment from them, we realized they had intended to slip away without paying. Everyone took it for granted that anyone in their position would try to do this. It was not morally wrong, but we had caught them and they were embarrassed. There was no hositility. They did pay us, however, and I decided to waive payment on several bags of softener salt (?!) in courtesy.

Later I had an intimate moment with the leader. He was seated, and I knelt with my face in his lap. I looked up. He was wearing blue jeans but his chest was bare. Although he was slender, his stomach had a lot of folds in it. I said, "I love men with liquid eyes." In the context of my dream, liquid seemed to mean large, soft and brown. He looked away in embarrassment. I took this to mean that he was straight and couldn't return my affection, but was sympathetic. Then I was embarrassed, feeling I had taken advantage of him because we had caught him trying to steal.

A later scene focused on my oldest nephew and niece, Jamie and Robyn. In the dream they were about seven years old, and I had just realized they were born in the same year, only a month apart. Looking back, Jamie had been born in December and Robyn the month before, in November. This incident occurred at the home where I grew up. I saw the property from the southeast corner, at the edge of the bluff, looking back at the house. There used to be a large white birch in that corner, and another in the centre of the lawn, but in my dream a silver maple was substituted for one of them, besides other silver maples in their correct places around the yard. The tree positions were associated with dates in the calender, and James and Robyn were linked with these two trees, which identified their birthdays. But time worked backwards, and since Robyn was born at a more distant time, she was younger. (In reality, James was born in August 1980 and Robyn in February 1981.)
