A Canadian is someone who considers wearing shorts when the temperature hits 12°C (54°F).

Good afternoon! Nice to see you. It's sunny down here, too. Strange to walk down the street and see half the people with coats and the other half in shorts.

I brought my coat today. ;)

Nice to see you, too. I know, I'm way too enthusiastic about spring weather, but it's awfully nice, isn't it?

There's no such thing as too much enthusiasm when it comes to spring weather!

It's just these wimpy delicate Southern genes. :)

I forgot you were a Sutherner.

Pittsburgh is Deep South compared to where you are, I suppose.

Even though I was born here, I can't get used to winter. My parents are both from North Carolina, but then again they never complain about it.

No, Pittsburgh isn't very far, as I've said before. Now I understand what you meant by Southern genes. Well you keep them, and I'll wear my Northern shorts.

Well I'm envious. It's been grey and sodden here the past few days. On Sat. we did have a gorgeous sunny afternoon and I stood outdoors chatting with Crowman for awhile wearing a shirt and t-shirt. Felt practically naked not to be wearing a coat!

hugs, Shimmer

It's still nice here, hopefully the fine weather has spread to your neck of the woods by now.

A colleague and I once agreed that (in New England anyway) the warmest day of the year is the first spring day on which the temperature exceeds 50°F, and the coldest day of the year is the first fall day on which the temperature drops below 50°F.

For the most part I would agree, although our cottage country is prone to 50°F weather by late August, so I would have to set the threshold a little lower.

Then I must be canadian. I get the strangest looks from these southerners shivering in their parkas when I wear shorts. Cold? Not likely.

I almost said something to a woman walking behind me saying it was freezing out today. It was windy but hardly cold... such madness! No, it's 80 today like it was last week. Pray for these weaklings... :-)

Whenever my family drove to Florida on March Break, we would be eager to go swimming at the first motel where we stopped, even if the temperature was 70°F. The locals thought we were crazy.

We both get the snow, but I wonder if Canadian winters might be a little longer and colder? I have heard that Ottawa is the coldest national capital in the world except for Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

So where are your shorts!

Just you wait. But if you're referring to my lack of shorts in the photo that appeared in the previous post, they burned off under blazing October maples.

It was the photo I was referring to :)

I still remember a very bad sunburn I received when I was living on a ranch near Wendover, Nv. (north east corner of Nevada bordering Utah). It was about this time of year and I was so happy to feel 50 degree weather that I took off my shirt and sat on the porch loving the warmth after a cold winter. I think it took about 15 minutes to burn!

One of my weaknesses is I'm a sun worshipper. I love the feel of sun on my skin and like the way I tan. I know it's not healthy, but it's a temptation I can never resist. I usually manage to expose myself slowly enough each spring so that I never get a bad burn.
