Jan. 14th, 2011 10:25 pmA sensitive tooth woke me at 3:15 this morning. I just had to rinse my mouth, but by then reptile brain had awakened and begun to worry. I never could fall sleep again. Around 4:30 I got up, lit a candle and worked on the winter journal. The sleep deficit sucked, but I love writing in the early morning. It feels monkish.
The anxiety settled down some more. Late morning I did some breathing exercise and filled out a thought record. These may have helped. After a trip to the supermarket, I went on another walk by the river. This time, feeling better prepared for reflection, I left the camera home. I discovered a trail I hadn't noticed before, along the south side of the Speed River from Neeve Street Bridge to the covered bridge. Along the way I stopped and used the voice recorder on my cell phone to note thoughts and observations. Handy!
After the walk I went into housecleaning mode. With the advent of Danny's arrival for the weekend, I felt both energized and relaxed. Last weekend I roasted a turkey just so I could have leftovers. Tonight I revised an old favourite recipe, Sylvie's pâté de dinde, replacing the usual biscuit crust with a concoction of sorghum and corn startch. It was delicious. I'll try to remember to post the method separately.
I am really tired. Deliciously tired. Since I started going to bed earlier, my brain actually begins to slow down in the evenings. I've started looking forward to bed.
