Part of that, of course, is being so integrated with the US. I should be wearing metric size 90 instead of 36 pants, and 44 shirts instead of 17½ if we were going to convert, but the sizing hasn't changed yet. (And if understands women's clothing sizing, let us know.)
Corresponding with so many US bears, ljer's, etc. keeps the height and weight in mind. I try to remember to go 5'7"/168 cm - 220 lbs/100 kg, but I don't always remember.
