I'll be cooking Christmas dinner at my parents' house again this year. Here's the tentative menu.

The link for that cheesecake doesn't work, sorry. Try this one:

I'll put the recipe for those sweet potatoes under writer00's comment.

That's the one item on the menu I'll be repeating from last Christmas dinner.

Tangerine sweet potatoes

9 cups thinly sliced peeled sweet potoates (about 2½ pounds)
8 lemon slices
Cooking spray
2/3 cup firmly backed brown sugar
1 tablespoon grated tangerine or orange rind
½ cup fresh tangerine or orange juice
2 tablespoons margarine, melted

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Arrange sweet potatoes and lemon slices in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish coated with cooking spray. Combing remaining ingredients. Drizzle sugar mixture over potatoes; cover with foil. Bake at 400° for 35 minutes. Unncover, stire well, and bak an additional 30 minutes. Yield: 12 half-cup servings.

This recipe comes from the 1996 holiday issue of Cooking Light. I'll probably just use butter.

I hate that we're only going to be about 30 mins away from each other :(

Dang, we have to get our act together sometime. This is going to be serious family time, otherwise I would make an excuse to hop across.

And?

My inlaws serve their pate (Acadian version of tourtiere) plain, and it's always wigged me out. It needs veggies on the plate to make it not seem so bland and thunky (yes, thunky is a word!). May I suggest some sauteed spinach or other green, or maybe some carrots glazed in honey and brown sugar - something vaguely sweet to counter the meat and pastry.

For dessert, maybe some shortbread cookies - unless that hits your pastry overload button, then maybe something light such as poached pears?

Actually I was vague on that point because I intended to ask Mom to look after the accompaniments for the tourtiére, because we will arrive mid-afternoon on Christmas Eve. Turns out she was already planning a Caesar salad (one of Brenna's favourites), which will work fine. I find peach chutney goes nicely, but I didn't make any this summer so my chutney shelf is bare. Some baby carrots might be nice though. Hmm.

I think Mom had dessert worked out, too, but memory fails me.
