Today was low-key compared to other years, exactly what I wanted: waking up with Danny (a pleasant arousal indeed) and spending some time quietly together. He took me to The Bookshelf for brunch (a bacon-mushroom frittata and baby greens), then we went camera shopping.
I had picked one out several weeks ago, but today I decided to take the plunge. My most significant purchse in years, it took considerable planning and saving, of which I'm proud. Also grateful to the many friends who made donations for copies of An Elegant Path. The proceeds went toward this purchase. Many thanks, and I hope you enjoy the fruit of this gift.
I won't give away the Kodak DX3500. I've learned from its limitations and will always feel a sentimental attachment. Its legacy is the hundreds of images in this journal so far. It might enjoy a quiet retirement while I experiment with the new Canon PowerShot A620:

- 2" vari-angle LCD
- 20 shooting modes, offering high degree of manual control
- movies
- macro focusing range as low as 0.4 inches

Date: 2006-03-20 02:07 am (UTC)I'm in need of a new camera as well. My little Kodak DX7430 met an untimely death last fall when I accidently dropped it on the kitchen floor, with lens extended. :-( Worked for a short while but I think it deader than a door nail though now.
I've been looking but do not have the funds to replace at this time but I'm thinking towards the Nikon as they use the same SD memory cards as the Kodak of which I have two dedicated for it and one that goes in my cell phone for camera use.
That Canon looks nice however.

Date: 2006-03-20 02:43 am (UTC)Mine also uses AA batteries and most camera now do I think. Even many of the new Nikons now use AA batteries as well if I'm not mistaken.

Date: 2006-03-20 01:31 pm (UTC)Aside from the Guelph arboretum, what kind of walking type places are around Guelph?
Also Dave mentioned that he might be interested in looking around St. Jacobs if we could manage it timewise.

Date: 2006-03-21 04:15 am (UTC)Dave definently wants to see St. Jacobs, or at least one specific store there, so if we can fit that into the agenda everything else we can do.
I'd like to see some of the local woods around there if there's time. I figure if we aimed to get to Guelph around 12:30 or so we could start from there? Or later, depending on your comittments...

Date: 2006-03-20 04:51 am (UTC)Your "elder" camera looked very familiar, and I had to check; mine is the DX3600, probably not much different from the 3500. Alas, mine intermittently shuts itself off when jostled, so I can't do much with it these days. I'll look forward to any comments about your Canon, since I'd like to get a new camera sometime.

Date: 2006-03-20 04:08 pm (UTC)I think waking up with the one you love is the best birthday present of all. because my birthday falls in late July, I've gotten to do this a couple of times in recent years. A couple of years back I had what I think was the most complete birthday experience possible: waking up with C, performing a magickal ritual in one of my favorite places on the Farm, preparing a lovely meal and sharing it with my friends, and performing "Wives and Lovers" as a tribute to Dusty Springfield. Then lovemaking at bedtime with my luscious, devoted carpenter.
I still grin ear to ear whenever I remember that day!
hugs, Shimmer

Date: 2006-03-20 08:38 pm (UTC)It put an idea in my head. When I get around to working on poems about polyamory, I could interview friends (and lovers) about their experiences, ideas, feelings. It would enable me to draw threads from many stories besides my own.
