Pain

Leaving Lindsay yesterday we went through severe thunderstorms. The photo (cross-posted to [livejournal.com profile] weather_pics) was taken near Blackwater at 12:33 p.m. At times rain reduced visibility, reducing our progress to a crawl. We saw a truck overturned in the ditch, its load of soil spilt.

By the time we reached Newmarket and stopped for subs, the sky was sunny and the streets were dry. Ironically, that's where the accident happened. The Sunfire was rear-ended while sitting at a stoplight, and Brenna and I received whiplash. That's all I want to say publicly about it now.

I took the Sunfire to the garage this morning. Insurance should provide physiotherapy and a replacement car until repairs are done. Unfortunately the insurance adjuster hasn't contacted us yet, and I'm unable to proceed. Dad and I have placed multiple calls to the insurance company (the policy is in his name).

This morning I didn't feel much pain. I went to Two Rivers to learn the routine at the new office (we had to move out of the school basement for the summer), but only stayed a few minutes. I took Brenna downtown on the bus for a little retail therapy, bought her a summer shirt, and me a CD: Michelangeli playing Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 13 and 23, and Haydn's Piano Concerto No. 11 (EMI Classics).

Suddenly my neck started to get stiff and sore, so we came home. It's getting worse now. Time for Ibuprofen. Brenna seems to be suffering more than me, but doesn't complain unless I ask. She doesn't like pills, but I'm going to try grinding one up for her.

The gentle, mournful Adagio of Mozart's 23rd is one of my favourite musical movements, and I'm right now listening to it for the second time in a decade.

wonderful shot and i hope you and Brenda are feeling better again soon!
I do love classical music, especially while working. It's so difficult though to find classial music CDs around here. Even online most music stores only seem to have some mainstream basics in rather mediocre recordings.
Back in Munich i used to visit a music store for classical music only. There was a bunch of gay guys working in this store and there wasn't a composer or piece of music or recording or singer that they didn't know about. They were just amazing. If you wanted a certain rare piece of music let's say Monteverdi or Gabrieli played by a certain orchestra they would know what is on the market right away and would be able to recommend one cd over all the others.
I miss them so much. Right now i'm mainly listening to a Swiss Classical radio station online. Pretty mainstream also, but at least without any news or commercials and stuff in between.

I'm listening to it right now! Lovely Chopin.

I do enjoy CBC Radio 2, because it presents such an eclectic repertoire and has introduced me to much new music over the years. It doesn't tune in very well in Guelph, and until recently the internet connection didn't work very well, but I discovered last week that it's much better now, so I'll be tuning in more regularly. It will be fun to tune into this station, too.

Here in Guelph we have a nice little Classical music store. A good chunk of my collection was purchased there when I was younger. It has changed hands now, and I haven't had much extra cash to spend on CDs in recent years, so I can't attest to the quality of the store and service, but in the past they were willing to order just about anything.

I'm hugely a Romanticist. I was raised on a solid diet of Beethoven and Tchiakovsky, but branched off slightly in my own directions. My favourite composers are Sibelius, Brahms, Dvorak, Rachmaninoff, Vaughan Williams, Bruckner, Mahler, more or less in that order. I have discovered the Classical and Baroque composers for myself, and am slowly acquiring some of their works as well. Chamber music was another thing we never listened to at home, but which I've come to adore.

:( I send you virtual ice packs.

If you weren't feeling it this morning when you got up, it's probably not *too* bad. I've had whiplash a few times and when it's bad, you can't lift your head off the pillow.

Hope you guys are feeling better soon.

Thanks, your comment is reassuring. Brenna also had whiplash once before, from a soccer injury, and also said this isn't as bad, so I hope we're in for a relatively easy time.

When I was a kid and couldn't swallow pills, I used a spoonful of jelly and stuck it in the middle. Always worked. Brenna's favorite type may be in order.

Thanks for that suggestion! Maybe we'll try it at bedtime.

That Mozart movement is indeed one of our species' most beautiful creations.

Hope your and Brenna's necks are better soon.

It is simply a jewel beyond compare. I used to have the Mitsuko Uchida and Jeffrey Tate recording, but don't know what became of it. The sound quality was better than this one, but I couldn't say no to the bargain price.
