About a week ago I lost the scroll function on the TouchPad of this Toshiba Satellite notebook, which meant I had to point to the side of every window and use the scroll bar. My index finger was not happy. Then I remembered downloading an optional update for the TouchPad driver that must have messed it up, along with the usual Windows updates. I was not enough of a techie to know what to do.

A Google search led me to FixYa.com, which looked helpful, so I posted an inquiry. Soon I received an email suggesting I pay for their Premium Assitance Plan to have my problem addressed by their team of Elite Experts. So much for that.

I tried ignoring the problem.

This morning my index finger said, "I hate you."

So I went into Windows Update, where I found an update history and "Troubleshoot problems" link. From there it took just a few clicks to find the TouchPad driver, and the "Roll Back Driver" Button. Reboot, and now it works.

"How persistent and resourceful!" says my index finger. "I love you."

"Index finger love" A most important relationship to maintain. I think I saw that episode of Oprah or was it Dr. Phil??

Honestly, I am unaware of that!

I can't stand using the scroll pad on my laptop. I bought a mouse for laptops that I got on sale for about $30. Well worth the money. If you keep looking you will find they are on sale quite often.

A TouchPad takes getting used to, but now I much prefer it to a mouse.

[To the tune of "Think of Me" from The Phantom of the Opera:]

"Finger me, finger me fondly..."

There's a *HUGE* and deeply fulfilling sense of satisfaction when us non-techie folk manage to fix something so small and yet so profound, isn't there? =)

I'm happy your finger has some reprieve, all the better to take great photos with! (LOVED the previous one of the river and the snowy branches!)

A wonderful 2009 to you, Van, may it fill you right up...

Thank you, Pippa, and may your year be just as full. I'm glad you liked that photo; it is becoming one of my own favourites.

Well, I want to add I really like the photo you use of yourself, with the blue flowers. The most striking portrait I've *ever* seen of anyone!

Saw the very same flowers here yesterday when I returned to work (for the life of me I can't think of their name), and I immediately thought of you. =)

And that's nice, walking through 'real' life and being reminded of cyber friends and acquaintances, who are ~ after all ~ just as real.

The plant is Plumbago, or Cape Leadwort. My icon occurred almost by chance while I was trying to photograph the flower in my bathroom window a few years ago.
