We are taking a couple weeks off from the Vancouver project to do some work for St. Mark's Anglican Church in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The organ console is being placed on a dolly for mobility so the entire organ needs to be rewired (it is electropneumatic). It's a refreshing change to get out of the shop and work on site.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is almost two hours from home, so we are staying here a few nights to get the work done. It is an historic town, one of the prettiest around. St. Mark's is the oldest Anglican Church in Ontario (1791) and the building was constructed in about 1805. We are staying in the manse, a spacious house built around 1850. Reverend Bob is an entertaining host, skilled at conversation. He took us out to dinner last night at The Angel, a traditional pub. Food was accompanied by a couple pints (cider for me). Back at the manse he served Scotch. Surprisingly, I am not hungover this morning.

Sounds lovely! I enjoyed our stop at Niagara-on-the-Lake a couple of years ago, and would imagine that staying there -- and in the church! -- would be fun. I hope you get another chance to wander down to town or the water while you're there.

I've visited Niagara-on-the-Lake a few times, but this is the first time I've ventured away from the main drag or Fort George. Les and I went for a long, brisk walk after dinner and saw quite a bit of the town. Oddly it feels more like an American colonial town than Ontario. The lakeshore is picturesque.

Hey Van,
Love The Angel! You know it's haunted? When I wasn't drinking beer, I would order cider and get a "Ya Wimp!" accusation from my drinking buddies until I showed them the alcohol content. Whisky is hang-over free. No wonder it translates as water of life.
Lovely time to be in NotL. Before the tourists and when the blossoms are out.
Is Joan Draper's rare bookstore still there?
hugs,
Sarah

Yeah, I don't really mind that I can't drink beer because I prefer cider anyway, not to mention wine.

I haven't noticed the bookstore. Was it on the main drag?

The manse where we are staying is also apparently haunted. Some ladies sitting and doing a watercolour class all saw three children come down the stairs. More on the mase in the next post, which unfortunately did not repost to Facebook.

P.S. What were you doing in NOTL?

I've been to NotL for short vacations, especially with countless visitors from overseas who had to be taken to see Niagara Falls. After a while, I would insist on staying in NotL rather than NF.
A couple of times, I went there when I was a sales rep for the region.

Joan Draper's shop was off on a side street. Sorry - memory fails me. She might be long retired by now.

So sorry about your car. It's that "what NOW?" feeling. Take it easy & hope you have a great weekend.

hugs,
Sarah
