Date: 2003-08-16 03:47 pm (UTC)I'm glad you enjoyed this photo so much. It is kind of a love photo. I like taking pictures of where I write, and this is one of my favourite places to do it.

Date: 2003-08-16 05:47 pm (UTC)When I was an MIT student I used to take notes with a Rapidograph - I really thought they were cool. My handwriting was pretty messy but somehow or other using a fountain pen gave me an incentive to write more neatly. For a while I tried writing in italics with a broad pen and that definitely helped my penmanship style. I think I have my father's Parker 51 somewhere or other - he always wrote in green ink and also had a green ribbon in his typewriter. This is ancient history since he died in 1962, but these mentions of fountain pens brought forth a few really old memories. Thanks.

Date: 2003-08-16 04:59 pm (UTC)It's funny we would both forget the camera is part of the picture. We both like taking pictures of ourselves, but a camera has a harder time taking its own self-portrait.
I'm not especially pleased with my digital camera because it offers so little control of focus, exposure and depth of field. I liked manipulating them so much I hardly ever used the automatic features on my Canon AE-1. But I'm grateful the Kodak DX3500 gives me the chance to shoot as many pictures as I want (I can't afford film), and I'm learning how to work creatively with its limitations.
