The past week our relationship deepened considerably. I have never met anyone else who thinks so much like me or shares my obscure sense of humour. We both crave wilderness and simplicity, enjoy good food, feel cynical about popular culture and believe in living life to the fullest. We had some long, hard laughs in the car.

After visiting [livejournal.com profile] koobear's café at Stouffville Market yesterday afternoon, I drove through Uxbridge en route to Lindsay to drop off Marian and pick up Brenna, just back from summer camp. The drive reminded me of long summer days growing up in the country, although this farmland is much more rolling than where I grew up.

The gravel road of my youth was bordered with purple vetch.

This evening Brenna and I intended to go to Eggcetra for dinner, forgetting most restaurants are closed on Monday nights. Instead we went to East Side Mario's, a first for me. The food was satisfactory (Brenna was pleased) but the service was outstanding.

Coming outside after dinner we found the sky over Guelph filled with a glowing giant.

An additional photo is posted in [livejournal.com profile] weather_pics.

We stopped at home to pick up my camera. Then we drove to a park by the Speed River and bought ice cream cones. We watched a raccoon surveying the river from the opening of a storm drain. His dark mask turned curiously back and forth in the settling dusk.
